Old City Market

Characterization of Urban Residential Areas in Pre-colonial Indian Cities

under the guidance of Dr. Tarak Nath Mazumder and Dr. Arup Das

My current research aims at the characterization of urban socio-spatial structure by describing typologies of urban residential areas based on people-specific and place-specific dimensions. We essentially explore the different types of residential areas in a city, an understanding which is of importance to the various housing decision-makers, such as households engaged in housing location search, real estate players catering to differentiated housing market demand, and urban planners creating provisions for demand-responsive public goods such as open spaces and infrastructure.
